Fangpyre Wrecking Ball Set 9457 Is Released!

Well, Lego.com always has many, many sets come out after Christmas encouraging shoppers to buy more. Now to the set, this set comes with 415 pieces, and has three minifigures. This set looks great, snake-like in fact, and is priced at $49.99, which is a bit high.

Kingdoms Joust Set 10223 Is Released!

This is a set I have been waiting for, and it's finally out! this set is 1,575 pieces, has at least nine minifigures, and is complete with tents for the champions, village houses, and brilliant work on the castle towers. This set uses many different techniques, like the Marakoeschtra's Wall, and uses the anti-dote for the BIG grey wall syndrome, and is great in all aspects, and I look forward to getting it and building, if your a Lego castle person this set is for you.

Destiny's Bounty Set 9946 Is Released!

This flying dragon-ship is made of 680 pieces, some of these can only be found in this set and are rare. This set also comes with six minifigures, and looks really cool, and if I were to get this set I would build a viking ship out of it. The set looks great but it priced at $79.99, which I think is a bit high.

What I Got For Christmas!

Well, I did get some clothes, but I'm sure you don't think that made my Christmas be the best, what really made this years Christmas be the best was that I got a Mindstorm! I spent all of Christmas day building and programming my bot. I tried to build the alligator, but then I realized that the Alpha Rex robot could do so much more. Alpha Rex is able to sense the distance with his ultra-sonic eyes, and can sense color, with his color sensor, and can walk.

Instructions On How To Build Lego Angry Birds

Well hello, today I finally came around and made a video of how to build Lego angry birds, this is only instructions for the red bird, and I made these instructions from how to build a Lego ornament, but altered them, so these instructions are my own, and would like it if you shared them around, but not make videos unless you give me credit by mentioning my blog.

New Ninjago Fangpyre Truck Ambush Set 9445!

This set was just released this morning! It has 452 pieces, and has four minifigures. this set has interesting pieces, like the light green pieces, and those purple pieces. In my mind, if I was a Ninjago fan, I would defiantly get this set! This set comes with 2 snake monsters, and 2 equip Ninjago people.

Recently Dis-continued Set 4432 Garbage Truck!

Lego.com has just recently discontinued set number 4432 Garbage Truck. This set looks like a great set complete with actually being able to "dump." This set looked great, but sadly Lego.com discontinued it. So all the people who bought this set in time are really lucky!

Angry Birds in Lego!

While away on Winter Break, I had lots of time to use for building new Lego things, and I discovered a way to make an angry bird, most of you are probably familiar with the app, angry birds. It's an app where pigs have stolen some birds eggs and they're angry. But what I did was I made an Lego ornament from instructions online ans slightly modified them to make them angry birds, of course they're not as good as Tsnag Yui Keung's birds, but they're, in my mind pretty good, for an eleven-year-old boy. Here's the link for making an ornament.

Lego Set 3817 Flying Dutchman is Released!

Lego.com must be working on making more Sponge-bob sets, this set has some interesting pieces, like the green boat pieces, and the one-piece-bow. This set is 241 pieces, has three minifigures, and has some great detail, including the planks on the dock, and the great custom flag, I'm not really a fan of Sponge-bob but this set is pretty cool.

Lego.com has decided to bring 2012 LEGO sets out early. These sets can only be purchased online, not at a store, until they come in in January. Eight LEGO city sets, with hillbillies, cops, and angry bears. If any of you have seen the movie Jurassic Park,  you'll be glad to hear (or not) that dinosaurs are back in two new sets. These sets will soon hit stores in 2012!

List of LEGO Sets About to Come out!

Many new sets about to be released from different series. One new set from Star Wars, is the set 9491 Geonosis Cannon, aside from having four minifgures and a cool looking set, not too much like how many pieces it has, also the price is unknown to the public. Next two sets from Racers set 9094 Star Striker, and 9095 Nitro Preadator, aren't exactly my "type" of set. Then we have quite a few Ninjago sets seven in fact, and here they are: Destiny's Bounty featuring a great detailed warship, Fangpyre Truck Ambush with a snakish-car-thing, I'm actually not sure which it is, Cole's Tread Assault with a cool black tank, Rattlecopter with an intricate design, Jay's Storm Fighter with an awesome blue plane, Kai's Blade Cycle with and last but not least, the Venomari Shrine with many cool snakes.

New LEGO Set 4184 Black Pearl!

Cool new LEGO set for Pirates of the Caribbean collectors. This set is 804 pieces, and 6 minifigures, and has some very interesting details, including gold widows, lanterns, a map room, and a unique masthead. This looks great for Pirates of the Caribbean collectors, I myself enjoyed the movies, and these LEGO sets are a great depiction of the movies. i think this set looks extremely good, if a bit out of price range.

I Now Have Two Blogs!

Here's a link to my other blog. I have made another blog because I think that since I like Lego Castle so much I will have another blog about Lego Castle. In the future, I will have , maybe even more blogs, but for now, I will have two. But I will continue to post as often as I can with school, chess, and soccer in the way.

Earth Dragon Defence set 2509 is Dis-continued!

This is a great set if your a Ninjago collector. As I am not, I have not purchased this set. Still, it's too bad it was dis-continued. The set is 225 pieces, includes two minifigures, and has a gigantic earth dragon. This set is pretty cool, and has some parts that are hard or near impossible to find.

Set Number 3848 Pirate Plank is Dis-continued

This Lego game has been discontinued by Lego.com in order to make room for the new and up-coming sets, you know what they say, "out with the old, and in with the new." Lego.com has been dis-continuing many sets this month, even though I have only posted some, due to my other activities. The Pirate Plank looked like a fun game, it's too bad they dis-continued it.

New Architecture sets!

Sorry I haven't been posting for awhile, I've had busy weeks between school and soccer. Two Architecture sets have come out in these last few days. Both I think are pretty cool sets. But as you may know that some Architecture sets get very pricey. Architecture sets are models of real life sculptures, these two are the Robie House, and the Brandenburg Gate. The Robie House is 2,276 pieces, those pieces are mostly made up of a dark red color you see on the set's roof. The Brandenburg Gate is made of 363 pieces, most of which are that sand colo, used for the walls and columns of the building.

Back to School and hop on the Bus!

School year is about to start! This Lego school bus I made took some time, but I got it done in time to share with you. This school  bus is made from over 50+ pieces, includes chairs, windows, and a moving stop sign. There are some interesting details about the bus I made, like the design of feet on the top of the bus, or the stripes down the sides of the bus. As I said before this model took some time, so I would appreciate it if I get some comments.

My New Monthly Mini-model!

My new monthly mini-model was designed to symbolize heading back to school. In the future I wish to continue my new monthly mini-models. This months mini-model is a pencil. It's 14 pieces that are common to almost anybody's LEGO bin. 1 black stick (for graphite), 1 brown cone, 7 tall yellow cylinders (the number doesn't matter much, just determines length), 2 flat grey cylinders (one before the tall grey cylinder, one after), 1 tall grey cylinder, then 2 flat orange cylinders (for the eraser).

Series 5 Lego Minifigure Decoding Cheat

Okay, I'm aware most of you know about the Lego Series, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 minifigures, but a smaller percentage of you know how to find out what minifigure is in the bag. Some of you might just ask a person that works there, others will take a random guess, and others just don't really care what they get. I'm about to tell you a way some people know. You have to feel what's inside the bag. You have to look with your fingers for the big or distinct pieces of the minifigure. Here's a list of how to get the right minifigure by feel.

Gladiator: He has a huge bulky helmet, but he’s also the only fig with a knife/sword.

Evil Dwarf: The winged helmet is bulky, but so are the pieces for the Royal Guard & Gladiator, but make sure to feel the wings on the side of the helmet. The difference in the shield between the Gladiator’s is that the front of the Evil Dwarf’s is smooth.

Royal Guard: This guy should be easy because his HUGE hat. Check to feel the rifle to make sure.

Lumberjack: The only “baseball hat” in this series. His axe is easily recognizable. But be sure that you feel the attached axe head on the end, or it could be the Evil Dwarf’s axe handle.

Cave Woman: The bone is a dead giveaway, (like the pun?) the club is like the caveman's in series 2.

Detective: His hat is double billed, feel for the magnify glass to confirm.

Cleopatra: Huge wedge dress, and snake are easy to feel.

Ice Fisherman: The fish, and fishing pole are the giveaway here.

Small Clown: His bowler hat feels similar to the Detective’s hat. He also has a pie. Feel short legs with no hinge to confirm, may feel like Evil Dwarf's short legs.

Boxer: His that his boxing gloves are attached to his hands. He’s one of the toughest to find if you don’t know that small fact.

Zookeeper: I expect the monkey to be easy to feel, either that or the banana.

Graduate: He’s the only fig with a 2×2 tile and his graduation cap is what I'd use to confirm. It’s square, with 1 different feeling corner for the tassel and a little raised bump in the middle of the top.

Snowboarder Guy: Like the last two snowboarders, the snowboard gives it away.

Fitness Instructor: Big long hair, and the “boom box” feels like a brick with a handle.

Godzilla: The tail is attached on the back like a backpack, you might even need to feel for his head.

Gangster: This minifigure has the smallest part in the series, his pistol, look for that, or find his case.

Super Star Destoryer

This new set came out some days ago, but it doesn't come with many people, because the reason this set is priced so high is because of the ship. With over 3,000 pieces put together as a master Lego crafter would do it, this set weighs over 8 pounds, and is nearly 50 inches in length. Includes only five people, (much to my disappointment) Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, Dengar, Bossk, and IG-88. This set looks great, the top lifts off to reveal a command station. I would recommend this set if the price were lower.

I Recently went to Legoland!

I went on a vacation to visit my family, and I went to the Lego Store in Rockfeller Center in NY. Then later on that trip I went to Lego Land Mall of America, MN. I was looking around and saw many new things that I have posted about on this very blog. Firstly, I noticed many places in Mall of America's Legoland Series five Lego minifigures, I also had the experience of purchasing some of the new series of minifigures. I purchased three of the sixteen new minifigures, the dwarf, cavewoman, and Cleopatra. Also, I happened to see the new Star Wars Advent Calendar in the store. In my next post I hope to discuss the items in the Series 5 minifigure bags.

Both City Advent and Star Wars Advent Calendars are out!

Theese new Advent calendars are sure to be a big hit, especially the Star Wars Advent, with their Santa yoda. The Star Wars Advent has 266 pieces, a few mini models, and eight minifigures. The City Advent Calendar is 232 pieces, some mini models, and nine minifigures. It's a good idea to pick for up some  for the Lego fanatics at home. These are awaysgood to add to any Lego builders collection.

Lego is Shipping Series 5!

Lego is shipping Series 5 all over the world! Not much wait left before I will have some of these in my collection.   As usual, you are limited to 16 packages. After the dot (bump) codes are decoded by someone I will post about the dot (bump) codes so, you can guess what your buying. Also, you should never always rely on the dot (bump) codes, and should rely a little on feeling the packages, look for the big and bulky pieces, those are the easiest. Also the pieces most unique.

Includes 8 minifigures a Santa Yoda!? micro scale Millennuim Falcon, a mini x-wing fighter, and 14 other Star Wars or Chirstmas related models. Lego Technique Diagonal Stripping

This technique is generally used on buildings. When using the Diagonal Stripping Technique you cannot just place the normal and inverted brick slope bricks casually against each other, because of the overlap. Slope bricks are available in a variety of colors. These slope bricks are quite common and are great to be used on a Lego model.

New Lego Volkswagen Van Set 10220, not yet released!

A real looking Lego Volkswagan Van complete with authentic interior. Includes 11 windows, a sink, some chairs, a few curtains, and a steering wheel. Also includes 1,332 pieces. On the outside is terrific detail with the "V" shaped three way color split, opening and closing doors. This set was originally priced for $99.99, but sadly after some reconsideration they moved the price to $119.99. This set is supposed to come out in October, so it's going to be an expensive month. I would like to get this set, but for me it's too pricey, and besides, I have a castle theme going on.

New Ninjago Wyplash Set 2175!

This new Ninjago Battle Pack hit Lego stores on August 11. This Battle Pack includes three weapons, four battle cards to influence the outcome of a battle, one character card, also includes ice optic spinner, and three light blue pieces. If your a Ninjago fan I definitely think you should consider to add this to your Ninjago collection.

SNIR (Studs Not In a Row)

You probably have not heard of this technique, SNIR Studs Not In a Row, very useful on walls and other things. In Lego, studs (nubs, dots, etc.) are in a row, and a straight one. Using SNIR  makes studs be in zigzags or diagonal lines. This technique comes very handy when fighting the BIG grey Wall Syndrome, (in previous post). As you can see, in this picture of someones moc, my own creation, (it's not my creation, that's why I said in this picture of "someone's" moc, so toc (their own creation), they used SNIR, I'm not sure if they new about it, or just did it because it was a cool pattern, but they used it, and make what would be a sort of boring picture, moc, or toc, an interesting creation.

Lego Diagon Alley has Recently been Dis-continued!

Diagon Alley has been dis-continued by Lego.com, with the saying, "out with the old, in with the new", Lego.com is making way for new products and clearing away those who haven't sold out. It's too bad because this looks like a good build, and if it was out longer I might be wanting to buy it myself. The Diagon Alley set includes 11 minifigures, 3 stores, Borgen and Burkes, Olivanders (complete with an exploding desk, whenever the spell goes wrong), and Gringots, the wizard bank. It also includes 2025 pieces. This looks like a good build, especially for Gringots and its "wonky" support towers. As I said before if out longer I would be urged to buy this set, but since it was dis-continued, good luck buying, and finding off of eBay, because lots of Harry Potter fans will be doing the same.

New Ninjago Blacksmith Shop!

This new Ninjago Blacksmith Shop is a great addition to any Lego enthusiast's collection. The set includes ten weapons, a chicken leg, 2 minifigures (Kai and General Kruncha), this set is a 189 pieces, and swivel wall to reveal a hidden stash of weapons, I'm not really a fan of Ninjago as I have said before I like castle, but I would like to get this set both for the pieces, and for the good build, have not purchased yet but I plan on it. All and all this is a good build.

The Antidote for the BIG Grey Wall Syndrome

Okay, another technique coming your way... it's the antidote for the BIG grey wall syndrome, using interesting pieces to make the wall different, used in the Castle With Many Techniques. A way to stop the BIG grey wall syndrome is to use different colors of pieces, in my castle I used brown, and dark grey, as well as light grey. Other ways include using different pieces like cylinders, and brown pieces that unlike normal 1x2 and 1x4 bricks, they have a little cut away so it looks like they are wood. In the second photo I have used the antidote for the big grey wall syndrome, un-like photo number 1.

Series 4 Lego Minifigures are Officially Dis-continued

Well, no big surprise, it would have had to happen sometime, but it will be sad that these will no longer be available in stores, and only be available via eBay, Amazon, or other websites that sell Lego's. Also, when Series 4 leaves the shelf at stores across the world, they will be replaced by the new Series 5 Lego minifigures. When the 16 new minifigures come out I plan to buy the evil dwarf, the cave-woman, the Cleopatra Lady, and the roman warrior. These should hit stores about September 1st. And I quietly await, but none to patiently, mind you, for the release of Series 5.

What to do With Series 4

If you are reading this blog you are most likely a Lego fan, like me. You most likely buy Lego's about once a month, or more. Series 4 Lego minifigures are almost gone, and you have probably accumulated some, again like me. What I have done most likely differently than you is I have purchased some of the same minifigures and I have made something for them that I made out of loose pieces I found laying around my room. There is no technique used in this creation, just two things helped me build it. An inspiration, something has to give you the idea, for me it was Series 4 vikings, the second, visualization, seeing the final product and striving to get there. For me this was another time I succeeded in making my creation come to life.

Invisible Rods Technique

The Invisible Rods technique is used in many of the best Lego models or dioramas. The Invisible Rods technique is used to display a thing flying, jumping, floating, lifting off the ground, or in this case levitating. The Invisible Rods technique is quite good for using birds, planes, or showing any motion that includes leaving the ground. In some posts I have already given a brief mention about the Invisible Rods technique in posts like Atlantis, and The Castle With Many Techniques. There are many pieces for the Invisible Rods technique in sets today. There are different types of translucent bricks, the rods (I used that in this model), the 1x2x1, and the 2x2x1/2, there are others but these are the most effective. Translucent rods are great because you can use them to have something floating in the air.

Star Wars Hoth Echo Base Set 7879 is Released!

This new Star Wars set was well created, unfortunately, the hinging of the base allowing it to open and close is lost when trying to put it on a base plate. Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and protocol droid, R-3PO get ready to fend off the attack as 2 snowtroopers come into view. This set comes with 8 minifigures, Chewbaca, Han Solo, Princess Leia, 2-1B, R-3PO (a protocol droid), Luke Skywalker (in the bacta tank), and of course the 2 snowtroppers attacking. This set is 773 pieces, some features include: 2 rotating radar dishes, a falling icicle trap, a working cargo crane, and a medical bay with a bacta tank.

Ewok Attack! Set 7596

Listen up Star Wars fans! This new set includes a Imperial scout trooper, Logray and Tokkat, (both warrior Ewoks). It also includes the Imperial scout trooper's speeder, an Ewok tree hideout complete with two catapults, and 166 pieces. In this set, all minifigures are armed with either a gun, bow, or a spear. This set and 7968, 7877, 7957, 7959, 7961, 7962, 7964, and 7965 were  released quite recently. Star Wars is releasing many new sets this month, and I think they will release many more this coming month.

Brick-built Rocks

Brick-built Rocks is a very useful technique, it is quite piece consuming, but in the end when it is finished it looks better than if you just used the big Lego rocks. In my creation, The Castle With Many Techniques, I used a brick-built rock that I made. I also was able to add a dungeon inside the rock. Brick-built rocks are quite realistic, and I think that it is worth the pieces it takes to make one. Brick-built  rocks are being used more and more in Lego creations.

The Castle With Many Techniques

I know that most of you are probably not Lego Castle fans, or you might not even have a favorite Lego series. I made this Lego castle for two reasons, the first my favorite Lego series is Castle, the second to provide you with the knowledge of how to make your Lego creations more realistic. In this creation I used the antidote for the BIG grey wall syndrome, Marakoeschtra's wall, and the Fire sword technique.  On this blog I have already talked about the Marakoeschtra's wall technique, Mixed Cylinder wall Curving, SNOT (studs not on top), and the Fire Sword technique. In the future I will discuss Brick-built Rocks, the BIG grey wall syndrome and how to stop it, and the Invisible Rods technique.

Recently Dis-continued Set 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge

This set was recently dis-continued by Lego.com. Lego.com has been dis-continuing sets to make way for new sets, and or improving the build for a different age group. I don't think that it was necessary for Lego.com to dis-continue this set. This set includes 7 minifigures, 1094 pieces, some detail on the sides with bone, and comes with a free poster. The cannon flaps lift up and you can slide your cannons out. I don't really know why Lego.com dis-continued this set other than they are going to come out with new things to replace the dis-continued.

Lettering Technique

Lettering is a technique used on many different things in Lego sets, railroad cars, markets, and buildings. There are many different types of lettering, like SNOT-ized Mosaic Lettering, that just means that the letters don't have their studs facing up, like in the picture. Stud-up is another way, it gives you an bird's eye view of the Lego's, so you see the studs. Stud-out is yet another way, it means that the Lego bricks are sideways and you see the top studs sideways.

New Creator Set, Hillside House

Creator sets are sets that have three models you can build with instructions but you can only build one model at a time because you are using most of the same pieces. The new Creator set, Hillside House (set 5771) comes with a minifigure and a brick-built dog and 714 pieces. Some features are a outdoor grill, musical Lego sound doorbell, realistic lights, a water spout, and many other things. Hillside House rebuilds into Smaller House with Greenhouse or a Modern Home. Creator sets are cool because if you don't like the first model or the second there is a third model.

Set 6918 Blacksmith Attack Is Out! And In Stores!

This set I have been waiting for, and the other Kingdoms sets, that came about a month earlier, sets 7187, 7188, 7189. This set I think is very cool because if you spin the water wheel, like if there was water flowing the hammer drops hitting the anvil, or whatever is resting on the anvil. This set includes: 2 minifigures, a dragon knight and a blacksmith, 7 weapons, some body armor, a bucket, a chicken, a spinning water wheel, and a 104 pieces.

Monday, July 11, 2011

Mixed Cylinder Curving

Mixed Cylinder Curving is a very piece consuming Lego technique, done correctly it allows you to curve a Lego wall into a circle or any shape with roundish edges. The bricks needed to make these cool walls are: 1x2 or 1x3, and a round brick. To make these walls all you have to do is offset the bricks so it would be 1x1, round brick, 1x1, round brick, until you can curve your wall to your desired shape.

Ninjago Set Battle Pack Recently Dis-continued

This set was recently dis-continued by Lego.com. Kai's battle pack includes: a fire spinner, 3 weapons, 1 character card, 4 battle cards, 3 Lego bricks, and of course Kai. I think they dis-continued this Ninjago Set because they wanted to clear space for more sets that are bigger and better than Kai's battle pack.

Lego Games

Lego.com is making Lego games from series already out. Like for example the Lego NinjaGo Game (in the picture). If you are a Lego Ninjago fan then you might recognize Sensie Wu, Zane, Jay, Cole, and Kai. Lego Ninjago is getting more and more popular now, so are Lego Games. There are many different Lego Games like Banana Balance,  Frog Rush, Pirates Plank, Draida Bay, and Robot Champ.

Marakoeschtra's Wall

This Lego technique is piece consuming but makes your buildings more life-like. Real brick-built walls have lines of mortar separating the bricks, so the structure holds together. In the Lego world most walls are completely smooth and plain, with the Marakoeschtra's Wall technique the wall becomes more life-like and real with detail. This brick-built building is both realistic and extremely detailed with it's bricks.

Shuttle Expedition

The Shuttle Expedition stands 17.5" tall and is 10" from wing tip to wing tip, this detailed and realistic shuttle is ready to blast of when you are, on it's next exciting mission into space. This set includes three minifigures one male and female astronaut and a service crew member, this set also comes with 1230 pieces. The Shuttle Expedition is the replacement of set number 10213 Shuttle Adventure, here are some reasons why the replacement happened: Since it's release in 2010 Shuttle Adventure was quite popular, although the model was designed for a 16+ target audience, a consumer call center brought to Lego.com's attention that younger children  were playing with Shuttle Adventure, Lego.com's designers started to look for any changes that could make it a better build and design for a slightly younger target audience.

Lego SNOT (Studs Not On Top)

Lego SNOT (Studs Not On Top) is a technique used in some Lego creations. This picture is a good example of SNOT, because the boat can move freely, so can the crocodile, but it has no studs poking up through the water, also the builder was able to catch the wake of the boat. Here are some reasons when using SNOT makes your creation better:
  • other bricks can move in different directions, that they could not go in if not using SNOT
  • and It gives your creation a more detailed and  lifelike appearance
